A filter system with individually controlled valves and a PLC accommodated in a custom-built container, designed to treat 12 m³/h of well water.
The site in Wallertheim required a solution capable of reliably treating 12 m³/h of well water with elevated iron and manganese levels. At the same time, there was insufficient space on site for a conventional installation. Therefore, a compact, high-performance and low-maintenance water treatment system was required that could be fully housed within a container.
A compact, customised solution in a container format was implemented, tailored to the limited space available and the requirements of the raw water. The system combines aeration, iron removal and manganese removal in a well-designed integrated system. The PLC-controlled individual valve technology enabled the implementation of a robust and reliable water treatment system designed for long-term use.
The system solution combines all the necessary process steps for treating well water containing iron and manganese in a compact, purpose-built container, thereby creating a space-saving, easy-to-maintain and high-performance complete system.
Stage 1 – Oxidation: The raw water is enriched with air (oxygen). This requires oil- and grease-free compressed air. The air is then fed into the oxidation tank, which contains internal components. There, the dissolved Fe2+ is mainly oxidised to insoluble Fe3+.
Stage 2 – Filtration: In the first of the two filters, which are operated in series, the unbound iron (Fe3+) is removed. Potassium permanganate is dosed upstream of the second filter. This catalyses the biological process of manganese removal in the second filter.
