Questions and answers on water treatment:

What is a water treatment system?

A water treatment system processes raw water to meet the specific requirements of its intended application. Depending on the source water quality and process demands, customised treatment systems are used to remove contaminants and dissolved salts. The objective is to provide water with precisely defined purity levels for industrial processes, medical technology, the pharmaceutical industry and food production.

How does a modern water treatment work?

Modern water treatment typically combines several treatment stages in sequence. Water is usually mechanically filtered first, softened where required, and then desalinated using high performance membrane technologies such as reverse osmosis. For applications requiring ultrapure water, additional technologies such as electrodeionisation (EDI) and UV disinfection are integrated into the treatment process.

What challenges does industrial water treatment solve?

Fluctuating raw water quality, hardness salts and microbiological contamination can damage production equipment and lead to costly downtime. A tailor made water treatment system reliably protects plant components against corrosion, scaling and fouling. At the same time, energy efficient technologies help reduce operating costs while improving process reliability and operational safety.

What does sustainable water treatment mean to Herco?

Climate change and increasing demand have made water a strategic resource for both industry and healthcare. As the first EMAS certified water treatment company, Herco views sustainability as a holistic concept. This includes resource efficient in house manufacturing, durable and energy efficient treatment systems, as well as comprehensive recycling and circular water management solutions.

What is water reuse and what does Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) mean?

Water reuse involves treating process water, rinse water or cooling water using membrane technology so that it can be reused directly within the production process. This significantly reduces fresh water consumption. Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) goes one step further by aiming to recover virtually all water, ensuring that no liquid wastewater leaves the facility. Both approaches contribute to greater resource efficiency and help secure production sites for the long term.

Why is water treatment so important in healthcare?

In hospitals, dialysis centres and CSSD departments, patient safety is the highest priority. Medical water treatment ensures compliance with the strictest microbiological and chemical quality requirements. Herco Medical develops and manufactures water treatment systems Made in Germany, certified in accordance with the quality management standards ISO 9001 and the medical devices quality standard ISO 13485.
