Water is a key process medium in galvanics, both in electroplating baths and in downstream rinsing processes. At the same time, galvanic technology is one of the industrial applications in which PFAS-containing substances are still used today in some cases.
PFAS have been used in galvanics as, among other things, wetting agents and surfactants, for example to reduce aerosol formation in chrome baths or to stabilise process conditions. These substances can enter wastewater streams via rinse water, bath changes or exhaust air scrubbers.
With increasing regulatory requirements and stricter limit values, the targeted treatment of PFAS-contaminated process and wastewater in electroplating is becoming increasingly important. Efficient water treatment concepts are therefore a central component of safe, compliant and sustainable operation.
